The Department of History, Berhampur University, organized a study tour to Visakhapatnam on January 24-25, 2025. This enriching journey was accompanied by the faculty members Dr. Ramakanta Bhuyan, Dr. Lokesh Durga, and Dr. A. Sobharani, who provided valuable insights throughout the visit. The tour included five prominent sites that offered a blend of cultural, historical, and ecological significance.
1. Simhachalam Temple: This ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Varaha Narasimha Swamy, is a splendid example of Kalinga architecture. Its intricate carvings and religious significance provided students an opportunity to study South Indian temple art and traditions.

2. Indira Gandhi Zoological Park: With its diverse fauna, the park helped students understand the importance of wildlife conservation and biodiversity. Observing animals in a semi-natural environment enhanced their ecological awareness.

3. Marine Museum: The museum presented fascinating marine artifacts, fossils, and models of aquatic life. Students gained insights into marine biodiversity and India’s maritime history.

4. Kailasagiri Temple: Perched atop a scenic hill, this temple offered a serene environment, blending spirituality and natural beauty. It encouraged students to appreciate the harmony between culture and nature.

5. Borra Caves: These stunning limestone caves showcased unique geological formations. Students explored the significance of preserving natural heritage and learned about the evolution of Earth’s landscapes.

These sites are vital for students as they provide hands-on learning, bridging academic theories with real-world experiences. Temples promote cultural and architectural understanding, while the park, museum, and caves foster awareness of natural and ecological heritage. Pabitra Mishra, MA second year student, said the Study Tour was amazing and mesmerizing. Mashesh Lima, another MA second year student, expressed his learning experience and gave thanks to the staff of the Department for Memorable Study tour.
