Berhampur University Commemorates International Human Rights Day

The P.G. Departments of Political Science, Public Administration, and History at Berhampur University jointly organized a successful celebration of International Human Rights Day in the Committee Hall of the P.G. Council. The event underscored the importance of individual rights in today’s world, emphasizing their significance for educators, scholars, and students alike.

Prof. Bishnu Charan Choudhury, Former Professor of Political Science at Berhampur University, addressed the gathering on the relevance of human rights from both Indian and global perspectives. He discussed their connection to fundamental rights and Directive Principles of State Policy (DPSP), advocating for immediate reforms to strengthen human rights across India. Prof. Amiya Kumar Parichha, another former professor of Political Science, spoke on the historical evolution of human rights and urged students to actively work toward protecting individual rights at the international level.

Dr. Sarada Prasanna Rout, Coordinator of the P.G. Department of Political Science, opened the event with introductory remarks, while Dr. Sadananda Nayak, Head of the Department of History, delivered a thought-provoking address on the challenges and issues surrounding human rights. Mr. Sanjaya Meher, Coordinator of the P.G. Department of Public Administration, along with faculty members Dr. Rajesh Seth, Dr. Soumendra Kumar Mohanty, Dr. Bhagyashree Rath, Mr. Jajnadatta Pattanayak, Dr. Ramakant Bhuyan, Dr. Lokesh Kumar Durga, Dr. Dillip Kumar Majhi, and Dr. A. Shovarani, actively participated, contributing to the program’s success.

Miss Saismita Patri, Seminar Secretary of Political Science, welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the day’s significance, while Miss Anwesha Dash, Seminar Secretary of Public Administration, delivered the vote of thanks. The enthusiastic participation of students from the Departments of Political Science, Public Administration, and History further ensured the event’s success.
