Waltair Division to be renamed as Visakhapatnam Division Under SCoR, New Rayagada Division announced under ECoR

Visakhapatnam, February 5, 2025 – The railway ministry has finalized the revision of divisional jurisdiction under the proposed South Coast Railway (SCoR) zone. As per the latest decision, the Waltair division will be retained in a truncated form and renamed as Visakhapatnam division under SCoR.

Key Changes in Waltair Division

The existing Waltair division will be split into two parts:

1. Visakhapatnam Division (Under SCoR):

Sections included: Palasa – Visakhapatnam – Duvvada, Kuneru – Vizianagaram, Naupada Jn – Paralakhemundi, Bobbili Jn – Salur, Simhachalam North – Duvvada bypass, Vadalapudi – Duvvada, and Visakhapatnam Steel Plant – Jaggayapalem

Approximate length: 410 km

To be renamed as Visakhapatnam division under the new South Coast Railway (SCoR).

2. New Rayagada Division (Under ECoR):

Sections included: Kottavalasa – Bacheli/Kirandul, Kuneru – Theruvali Jn, Singapur Rd – Koraput Jn, and Paralakhemundi – Gunpur

Approximate length: 680 km

A new railway division with headquarters at Rayagada, falling under East Coast Railway (ECoR).

Revised Jurisdiction of Railway Zones

South Coast Railway (SCoR): Visakhapatnam (Truncated Waltair), Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal

South Central Railway (SCR): Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Nanded

East Coast Railway (ECoR): Khurda Road, Sambalpur, Rayagada (New Division)

Jurisdictional Changes between SCR and Proposed SCoR

Raichur – Wadi section (108 km): May be transferred from Guntakal division (SCoR) to Secunderabad division (SCR) to avoid an interchange bottleneck and ensure smooth coal transportation for thermal plants at Yadlapur and Yermaras.

Vishnupuram – Pagadipili & Vishnupuram – Janpahad (142 km): May be transferred from Guntur division (SCoR) to Secunderabad division (SCR) to facilitate coal movement from Singareni to Vishnupuram and support the Yadadri thermal power plant.

The restructuring aims to enhance operational efficiency, streamline logistics, and improve connectivity across the affected regions. The final implementation is expected to be completed in phases over the coming months.
